This sponsorship supports a week of care and rehabilitation of a special wild animal like this Townsend's Big-eared Bat.
Bats help maintain healthy ecosystems by regulating insect populations with their incredible bug-zapping skills. There are 10 species of bats on Vancouver Island, and those most commonly admitted at Wild ARC include Little Brown, Big Brown, Silver-haired, and California Bats. They often come into care in the winter if their hibernation is disturbed by construction or other human interference. While the incidence of rabies in bat populations is low in BC, Wild ARC rehabilitators wear special protective gear when handling these patients to make sure everyone stays safe.
