One week of care for a seabird at Wild ARC

This sponsorship supports a week of care and rehabilitation of a special wild animal like this Marbled Murrelet.

Seabirds like this Marbled Murrelet are ocean-faring birds that have special adaptations to help them live their lives mainly in the water or in the sky, but very rarely on land. Their legs are set far back on their body, which means they make excellent oars and propellers, but make walking on land cumbersome. They also have special salt glands to help them filter and process the seawater they rely on for hydration. These unusual patients require specialized care and equipment while in a rehabilitation centre, including soft net-bottomed enclosures, warm-water therapy pools, and a specialized seabird diet.
